Gluteoplasty and Calf Plastic Surgery

WHAT IS A GLUTEOPLASTY?

Plastic surgery of the buttocks is indicated for patients who want to lift or give more volume to the gluteal region.

This aesthetic result can be attained using the lipofilling technique or by injecting fillers such as Macrolane or Hyaluronic acid or by inserting silicone implants.

Professor Mario Dini recommends going step by step, starting with the less invasive techniques (fillers and lipofilling), since putting in gluteal implants is quite a painful procedure and requires a longer, more difficult post-operative recovery.

WHO IS THIS PROCEDURE FOR?

Gluteoplasties can be performed at any age, although the best results are in younger patients who have firmer, more elastic skin and a good muscular structure.

Some patients mistakenly believe they can obtain the same results through liposuction or liposculpture, that is, by eliminating subgluteal fat pads.

Prof. Dini believes, instead, that in some cases, acting on these tissues can cause a loss of support for the buttock, with subsequent “sagging” of the area that should be lifted.

WHAT DOES THE PRE-OPERATIVE VISIT ENTAIL?

The pre-operative visit is essential so that the Professor can understand the most suitable surgical technique to satisfy the patient’s wishes and expectations.

After having evaluated the patient's health and the quality of the skin and muscular tissues, the professor will explain the most avant-garde surgical procedures in the aesthetic gluteus surgery field, recommending the most appropriate corrections for a firm, round behind.

Should you desire a significant, permanent increase in volume, Prof. Dini will decide with you which implant model is best suited to your body type. The professor also uses a modern computerised simulation program to show you the type of reshaping that can be performed.

HOW IS THE GLUTEOPLASTY PROCEDURE DONE?

The volume of the buttocks can be increased moderately and not permanently through injections of hyaluronic acid or the best quality reabsorbing fillers (macrolane), that give tone and volume to slightly flat or relaxed behinds.

Another technique that Prof. Dini uses frequently is lipofilling which, using tiny cannulas, takes fat from certain areas of the patient where it is in excess (abdomen, hips, thighs) and re-implants it in the gluteal area during the same operation. This way, the patient has the dual advantage of eliminating unwanted fat pads and, at the same time, achieving greater tone and volume to the buttocks.

Should the patient want a more significant, long-lasting increase in volume, Prof. Dini will perform a gluteoplasty with implants, inserting solid silicone implants under the gluteal muscle. The operation is performed under spinal or general anaesthesia as an outpatient procedure or one-day stay. The incisions are made under the gluteal fold and are therefore easily hidden.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT IN POST-OPERATIVE RECOVERY?

Depending on the type of procedure performed, post-operative recovery will be more or less long and difficult. After lipofilling or fillers, the patient will have to wear a compression garment and be on bed rest for 48 hours. After 3 days, the patient can go back to a normal daily routine. Exercise can be started again after about 2 weeks. In gluteoplasties with implants, a dressing is applied with a compression garment that the patient must wear for about a month. The aesthetic results are permanent and highly satisfying.

WHAT IS PLASTIC SURGERY OF THE CALVES?

Plastic surgery of the calves involves all the surgical procedures that increase calf volume and projection.

This operation is frequently requested by bodybuilders and women with thin, shapeless calves.

As for gluteoplasties, the volume of the lower limbs can be increased with lipofilling or by putting in implants. In the first case, Prof. Dini uses fat taken from the patient as a filler, while in the second case, a solid silicone implant, that is proportionate to the patient’s physique, is inserted under the soleus muscle. The incisions are made in the popliteal fossa and are practically invisible.

The type of anaesthesia used, post-operative recovery and the attainable results are the same as those described for the gluteoplasty procedure.
